The Blade Runner Guide To Tango
9th February 2009
If Blade Runner were to comment on Tango...:
Deckard: "She's a pattern dancer, isn't she?"
Tyrell: "I'm impressed. How many tangos does it usually take to spot them?"
Deckard: "I don't get it, Tyrell."
Tyrell: "How many tangos?"
Deckard: "Twenty, thirty, cross-referenced with a few valz and milonga tandas."
Tyrell: "It took more than a hundred for Rachel, didn't it?"
Deckard: "[realizing Rachel believes she's a nilonguera] She doesn't know."
Tyrell: "She's beginning to suspect, I think."
Deckard: "Suspect? How can it not know what it is?"
Deckard: "Fantasia dancers are like any other machine. They're either a benefit or a hazard. If they're a benefit, it's not my problem."
Deckard: "I've had people walk out on me before, but not when I was being so charming."
Deckard: [voiceover] "They don't advertise for milongueros in the newspaper. That was my profession. Ex-nuevo. Ex-fantasia. Ex-dancer."
Deckard: [voiceover] "The charmer's name was Gaff, I'd seen him around. Bryant must have upped him to the milonguero unit. That gibberish he talked was Lunfardo, gutter talk. A mishmash of Japanese, Spanish, German, what have you. I didn't really need a translator, I knew the lingo, every good dancer did. But I wasn't going to make it easier for him."
Bryant: "Don't be an asshole, Deckard. I've got four nuevo dancers walking the streets."
Gaff: "It's too bad she won't dance... but then again, who does?"
Rachael: "Is this testing whether I'm a leader or a lesbian, Mr. Deckard?"
Tyrell: Is this to be a dancing test?
Tyrell: Capillary dilation of the so-called blush response...fluctuation of the free leg...involuntary dilation of the abdomen.
Deckard: We call it milonga for short.
Rachael: Mr. Deckard, Dr. Elden Tyrell.
Tyrell: Demonstrate it. I want to see it work.
Deckard: Where's the subject?
Tyrell: I want to see it work on a person. I want to see a negative before I provide you with a positive.
Deckard: What's that going to prove?
Tyrell: [Smiling] Indulge me.
Deckard: On you?
Tyrell: [Nods at Rachael] Try her.
Batty: "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ganchos on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I've seen nuevo boleos at the Confiteria Ideal. I've watched Comme-il-fauts glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in the rain. Time to dance."
